American musician and actor Awkwafina began her career with hilarious hip-hop tracks that addressed the issue of sexuality and race with the most outrageous comedy perspective prior to expanding her repertoire to Hollywood. Nora Lum, born in Forest Hills Queens to Chinese and Korean immigrants, was her first musical encounter. She was a trumpeter. In the following years, she took up studying classical music and hip hop. At college, she concentrated on studies, concentrating in both journalism and women's issues. For a brief period during which she lived in Beijing, she also studied Mandarin.
